(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Taiwanese companies are looking to increase trade and investment relations with Oman to target regional markets by taking advantage of the sultanate's strategic location according to a senior official of Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Azmi Chang consul general of the department of West Asian and African affairs said 'We hope to increase economic and trade relations. Taiwanese companies would like to see more business and trade opportunities and invest in Oman. In terms of trade business and tourism Oman is a very important player in the region.'

Chang who is currently on a four-day visit to Oman as leader of the Taiwan youth ambassadors delegation said that more than ten Taiwanese companies have business operations in Oman and many more are looking for investment opportunities to target regional markets from Oman.

'Oman has a very unique position in this region with its strategic location which provides easy access to the export markets of regional countries Central Asia and Africa and even India and Pakistan.' Chang added that apart from trade solar energy and ICT offer great potential for increasing ties with the sultanate.

'Taiwan is the second largest producer of solar panels in the world and there is enough potential to develop this sector in Oman.' Taiwan has been one of the largest buyers of Oman's crude oil over the past few years. 'Oman is one of our top five crude oil suppliers. We will continue importing oil from Oman and maintain this relation' Chang said.

Diego Yao-jen Wen counsellor at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Muscat said that a business delegation comprising 26 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will visit Oman in November to showcase various Taiwanese products including solar energy and ICT systems.
