Taiwan youth ambassadors in Oman to promote cultural ties


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A group of youth ambassadors from Taiwan is in the sultanate to participate in a four-day cultural exchange programme.

The delegation which arrived on Sunday is led by Azmi Chang Consul General of the Department of West Asian and African Affairs in Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 16-member delegation comprising students from different colleges and universities in Taiwan has been selected through a comprehensive process said Chang.

'Having undergone a rigorous training programme each member of the group is honoured to serve as a youth ambassador and is confident that he or she will make meaningful contributions to the cultural exchange programme. The students also possess outstanding talent in different fields' he added.

Chang said the cultural exchange programme is a platform for the talented Taiwanese youth to participate in international affairs and broaden their horizons.

'The 2014 international youth ambassador programme is also aimed at promoting cultural understanding between the youth of Oman and Taiwan. The idea is to strengthen ties between the two countries. These types of programmes provide future leaders with more knowledge of various countries.

'These students will acquire a new perspective of Oman its culture and people and when they go back they will share this experience in schools colleges and with family and friends.'

The delegation's visit will also  highlight the different cultural aspects of Taiwan including martial arts music sports and performing arts.

The delegation met students from different colleges and schools in Muscat to exchange views and stage performances. They also visited the Sultan Qaboos University.

Before Oman the delegation visited South Africa Swaziland and Jordan. They will next visit Bahrain.

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been conducting international youth ambassadors exchange programmes since 2009. Last year six students visited Oma
