U.N. Security Council to Meet on Ebola

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency)  The United States is calling an emergency meeting of the Security Council this week on the Ebola crisis in West Africa, a U.N. diplomat said Monday.

The diplomat told the Associated Press that U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power, who chairs the council this month, has scheduled the meeting for Thursday.

The diplomat noted it would be only the second time the Security Council, which deals with threats to international peace and security, addresses a public health issue.

In 2000, the United States organized a council meeting on the AIDS pandemic.
