Sphere Medical launches first UK commericial product

Sphere Medical (LON:SPHR) is to launch the miniature version of its in-line blood gas analyser Proxima 3 at this week’s AAGBI Annual Congress in Harrogate.

The new analyser allows results to be taken from a patient's bedside for better critical care.

Dr Wolfgang Rencken Sphere Medical’s chief executive said: "We are delighted to announce the commercial launch of Proxima in to the UK market our first marketed product.

"Frequent measurement of arterial blood samples is a key component in the effective management of patients in the critical care environment particularly those that are unstable.

"Proxima keeps the care giver by the patient conserves blood and rapidly returns blood gas results to aid early decision making and closer control of therapy for critically ill patients - all of which ultimately improve patient outcomes."

Next year the company intends to expand its commercial sales operations into Europe by launching Proxima 3 in Germany and Benelux.

Dr Tom Clutton-Brock University Hospital Birmingham’s senior lecturer in intensive care added: "Rapid return of data and swift response to changing blood gases is as essential in patient care as the continual measurement of blood pressure.

“Fast feedback and response could have a real impact on efficiently stabilising patients or weaning them from mechanical ventilation."
