Paris Conf. pledges support for Iraq in all means to eliminate ISIL

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Participants in Paris Conference on Peace and Stability in Iraq pledged on Monday their commitment to support Iraq in all necessary means to eliminate ISIL.

In the final communique, participants expressed commitment to help maintain Iraq's unity and safety, praising the newly-elected Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abbadi, as they pledged full support to impose the rule of law and reinforce Iraq's unity and sovereignty, including achieving fair and equal representation to all Iraqi factions and people in government institutions.

The statement added that all who attended expressed their support for the Iraqi government to take "all necessary and effective measures to combat the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and terrorist groups, which represent a clear threat to all Iraqis." The statement noted that participants confirmed that ISIL represents a threat to Iraq and the entire international community and the fight against this danger requires a long-term effort, as they condemned crimes and mass atrocities committed by ISIL against civilian population, including minorities.

They also agreed on the need to cooperate and do everything in their power in order to hold those perpetrators accountable for their crimes, affirming support for an investigation conducted by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for this purpose.

Earlier, Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah stressed necessity of crystallizing an overall view to counter threats posed to the whole region by terrorist groups, chiefly ISIL.
