Allawi Urges Iraqi Government to Devolve Power to Provinces

(MENAFN- QNA) Iraq's Vice President Iyad Allawi has urged the federal government to give wider powers to the provinces.

In a media statement Allawi said, "We need to create a new political landscape where we do not discriminate against people and we do not deprive people of their legitimate rights on the basis of their creed, religion or belief." Allawi urged the government to work to devolve power to the provinces, especially those who led peaceful protests in 2013.

"We have had to integrate people who were seeking a peaceful solutions," he said.

He pointed to the need to make every effort to open up to those people and to meet some of their demands, stressing that the key issue is that these people should be treated on an equal footing with other citizens.

Allawi said he will support Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi "all the way if he moves along the right path to recovery".
