(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Salman Khan opens up about his charitable side and why he makes a conscious effort to repeat his clothes.Salman Khan made a fleeting visit to Dubai last Wednesday to promote his Being Human charity fashion range sold at Splash stores in the UAE. City Times caught up with the star and spoke to him about Dubai life and Bigg Boss. The actor who openly praised Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year’s trailer on Twitter told us he is not aware whether SRK and his team will come on Bigg Boss to promote their film.You have come to Dubai this time as part of the Splash promotion for Being Human. Can you elaborate more on the purpose of this visit
Being Human is totally my life and the goal is to take it to the next level each and every day. That basically is what brings me to Dubai every time just to create the awareness and to see that the brand is alive and kicking and people want to buy this product. It’s nice to get the reaction from people that they are buying the clothes because they like the quality and like the style and not because it’s a charitable trust and the profits are going to charity etc or because the brand belongs to me you know their favourite star... They should buy it because they like the stuff.
We hear that every cent that you earn goes to your charity. You are one of the top earning actors in India; in spite of that you maintain a simple lifestyle by living in a one-bedroom house and your vacation is limited to your farmhouse in Panvel (India). What does money mean to someone like you who seems to have it all
How do you know I stay in a one-bedroom apartment But yes I do. All my earnings go for Being Human. The only time I used to take a holiday was from December 15 to January 15 now that is being cut down from December 29 to January3 and I spend that in my farmhouse. My whole life is a holiday. Today I am talking to you now I will go to my room and chill. Even when I am shooting I am there with people I like working with. I go to various countries when I am working so why would I need a separate holiday I am really happy with the way my life has turned out and I am on holiday 24/7. In terms of money maybe if I did not have it I would known what money means to me but I have a little bit of it and I am happy with that. I do personally get impressed by success stories about how some people start small and they turn really big in life.
Not many people are aware of your charitable side - you seem to believe in the dictum of not letting the right hand know what the left is doing as far as charity is concerned.
The reason I do not let the other hand know what I am doing is because I do not have enough funds to take care of so many people. I come on TV people watch my movies when they see me on TV I am in their living room and bedrooms. If something goes wrong for some reason they feel that I can help them out. We cannot take on those many people that is the reason we do not go overboard publicising. Ideally that is what we should be doing. But the more people know they expect more from us and then they get disappointed because we cannot help them all and that disappointment is not cool. That is why what we do is Being Human clothing; now gyms will come and shoes will come. We are extending from here to England to North America to Ireland to South Africa; we are taking Being Human to different places. As an Indian brand we are going overseas.
You are on your way back to India from Toronto. How was the experience of promoting Dr Cabbie
It was good. I saw the film; it’s a good film. There are amazing performances in the film. It’s a sad story but told in such a funny manner that it works.
What do you prefer when it comes to your personal stylingI like simple T-shirts torn jeans flip flops shorts and boots. I like to keep it minimal. I keep on repeating my clothes all the time. I consciously do that because people want to hero worship you follow you; they should follow me like this. I don’t want my fans to pester their parents to buy new clothes when they cannot afford it; it is difficult for parents to support that.
You often come to Dubai what do you like best about this placeI love Dubai and its weather especially the heat. I just like this whole place; I think it is the most beautiful city ever. I just love it. Love the safe vibe; the city has its own culture. This feels like home to me.
Do you enjoy this concept of acting like a Peeping Tom in Bigg BossI do not understand the game. In fact there is a TV in my house. When I watch Bigg Boss only boring stuff is happening someone is sitting here and someone is sitting there. But I still get hooked on it as to what is happening inside. I have to watch every episode twice to know exactly what is happening and also it is a twenty-four hour show they only show you one hour. Most of the time they do not show why that is happening but I know why something happens. When I react to something it is because I know exactly what has happened inside.
