Kuwait Palestine sign deal MoU on political cooperation


(MENAFN- Arab Times) RAMALLAH Sept 14 (KUNA): Kuwait and Palestine inked Sunday an agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political cooperation between the two Arab countries. The agreement and MoU were signed by Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki with the presence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. 'The agreements would help expand cooperation and consultations between the countries' Kuwait Foreign Minister said in joint press conference with Al- Malki after the signing ceremony. The agreement stipulates for the creation of a joint committee for political cooperation between the two governments and the MoU stipulates for the political consultation between Kuwaiti and Palestinian foreign ministries. For his part Al-Malki welcomed the signing of the agreement and MoU. 'We are looking forward towards starting consultations to serve the interests of the two states and peoples' he said. Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al- Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday in Ramallah. The talks focused on the means of cementing bilateral relations with Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled delivering a written message by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah to Abbas. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled arrived in Ramallah earlier in the day on board a Jordanian helicopter and prayed in Al-Aqsa Mosque expressing his joy for this visit. The Kuwaiti official conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir the government and Kuwait people to Palestinians in Jerusalem City. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled stressed that Kuwait is following up closely what has been happening in Jerusalem and the role of people in preserving the city's sanctities. He said that Kuwait is constantly and forever supporting the Palestinian people promising that he would pay more visits to Palestine including Jerusalem. Meanwhile Sheikh Abdul Azim Salhab head of the Islamic Endowment Council of al-Quds stressed the importance of Kuwait's role in supporting Palestinians at different levels. Praised Salhab praised Kuwait's contributions to setting up a number of Palestinian institutions including Al-Quds University one of the most ancient universities in Palestine and hospitals for citizens. Governor of Jerusalem Adnan Al- Husseini said that the visit of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled reflects solidarity with Palestinians who have been resisting Israeli occupation in the city. 'Palestinian people will not forget Kuwait's continuing support to them' he told KUNA. 'The visit of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled means that Kuwait is in the heart of Palestine and Jerusalem is in the heart of Kuwaitis' he added. Salhab gave Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled a souvenir. Meanwhile Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Sabah held talks Sunday with Jordanian King Abdullah II on means to bolster bilateral relations in different domains. The talks also tackled the latest developments in the region and issues of common concern especially the joint efforts to counter the growing terrorism and extremism which threaten the security and the stability of the Middle East region and the whole world. During the meeting Sheikh Sabah Al- Khaled conveyed the greetings of the His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the Jordanian King. He voiced Kuwait's eagerness to upgrade relations with the Hashemite Kingdom in various domains. He pointed out that special relations linking the two countries have helped attract Kuwait's businesspeople to invest their money in Jordan. The Kuwaiti top diplomat said that Kuwait is one of the major economic partners to Jordan. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled lauded Jordan's role as custodian of Christian and Muslim shrines in the occupied Jerusalem. For his part Jordanian King said he is proud of the strong and special relations between Jordan and Kuwait. He expressed appreciation of Kuwait and His Highness the Amir's supportive stances towards Jordan.
