Oman- Cable fault leads to power cut in Qurm, Wadi Adai, Amerat and Hamriya


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Many areas in Muscat experienced power failure on Sunday following a fault in the main substation in Wadi Adai. The electricity supply was interrupted for several hours of the day.

The outage was due to a 33KV cable at the main transformer being snapped from the feeder an official from the Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) said 'There was no electricity in Qurm Wadi Adai Amerat Hamriya and parts of Ruwi. The electricity went out at 11am. We declared an emergency shutdown' he said.

The power supply was restored by 6pm. Residents of the affected areas had to face long humid hours without electricity.

A resident of Qurm said 'It has been a hot and humid day. No notice was issued about the power cut.'

Faraz T a shopkeeper in Hamriya said 'There was no electricity in some shops. Since we had not been given any notice we could not prepare in advance and this affected our business today.'

Ibraheem Saidi a sales executive at a private company in Qurm too said that work was affected and employees left office early.

'We did not have any alternative arrangements. It felt like holiday as some of us were allowed to go home early.'
