(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat Storm's goal fest in the new season continued as it hammered Team Romania 10-2 at The Sultan School's ground on Wednesday night.
Storm manager Lee Ebbutt made only one change to the starting line up - bringing Mark Lennon upfront in place of the injured Malchus Hilton - and the combination secured a resounding win.
Storm threatened to take the lead as soon as the action began when Kirk McPherson found himself alone on the edge of the box. But his shot went over the bar. It was not long until Storm broke the deadlock when McPherson drilled in the ball from the right and in the resulting confusion in the box Giorgio Di Spiga calmly skipped past a couple of defenders and stroked the ball in.
Team Romania looked to threaten its opponent every time it went forward and Storm defenders Billy White and Ron Polson had to stay on their toes. Soon Storm began to dictate the pace of the game and made it 2-0 in the 25th minute. Lennon kept troubling Team Romania with his pace. When he found himself one on one in the box with an opponent defender he was brought down for a penalty. Lennon converted from the spot to make it 3-0 and went on to complete his hat-trick ten minutes later putting Storm into a 4-0 lead at the break. Storm continued its attacking play in the second half. Team Romania was struggling to cope with Storm's pace and the home team kept much of the possession. Davis Rizzolo found the net in the 57th minute when he broke down the left flank following a smart pass from Jay Wynter. Rizzolo curled the ball into the far corner scoring his team's fifth goal.
Team Romania kept pushing and never gave up getting rewarded in the 60th minute when its first corner of the game resulted in the visiting team's first goal of the night. Storm reacted quickly when McPherson latched on to a pass from Sean Hennessey and sliced through the rival defence. His shot found the back of the net to make it 6-1.
The home team seemed to relax a bit and was punished by Team Romania when it scored its second goal with a well-placed shot from outside the box. Then in a five-minute spell Storm attacked at will and both Oli Myhill and Luis Miguel were finding gaps with their passes to the benefit of both McPherson and Rizzolo.
Rizzolo scored two goals in quick succession to complete his hat-trick and then McPherson struck his second goal. He gave the keeper no chance with a thundering shot making it 9-2.
The game was coming to a close when Storm scored its tenth goal from a clever piece of football involving most of the team. The build-up was finished when Lennon rounded the keeper for his fourth goal.
Ebbutt said after the game 'After our previous game this was a much harder test. However we are very strong this season. Our finishing and possession are superb at the moment. It is early days but after having scored 22 goals in two games I hope we can maintain this momentum. It is a great start to our season.'
