Russia to Participate in International Conference on Iraq


(MENAFN- QNA) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will head to Paris to attend an international ministerial conference on Iraq, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

Russian news agency (Itar-Tass) reported today that the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, in addition to representatives from Iraq and the Arab League will attend the conference. The Russian administration said that France's initiative to hold a conference aimed at reaching a broad consensus on the crisis in Iraq as a "timely step." The Foreign Ministry said in its statement that it also hoped the conference can "work out effective schemes that will not only allow them to stop the "Islamic State" from spreading its influence but will make it possible to determine what concrete aid could be given to Baghdad to support its efforts to fight terrorism."
