Arab Labor Org. issues 4th report on unemployment


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Arab Labor Organization on Saturday issued the fourth report on the rate of unemployment in the Arab countries, with Kuwait witnessing a decline in joblessness.

"Kuwait contributed to solving the problem of unemployment in the Arab countries," Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh, told KUNA, on the sidelines of Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) labor ministers' meeting in Cairo Saturday ahead of the Arab 41st session tomorrow.

She lauded the initiative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to set up a fund for supporting Arab small and medium enterprises fund, stressing it was one of main factors contributed to reducing the rate of unemployment. Kuwait contributed USD 500 million to the USD two billion fund.

"In the upcoming period, Kuwait will work on activating the fund's role to help all Arab countries benefit from it to overcome the high rate of unemployment," she pointed out.

The report has presented some of topics. It displayed analytical and documentary cases on the rate of youth unemployment in particular women in the Arab region.

The report focuses on helping youth find jobs by improving systems of technical education and professional training as well as supporting small and medium enterprises to develop creativity.

The report discusses roles of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and companies in recruiting people and training them on new approaches suitable to the needs of market.

The paper also underlined the importance of agricultural sector, which has been suffering from negligence for many years, as it has a key role in raising rate of growth and curbing rate of unemployment.
