16.5 growth in Omani private sector workers recorded during August


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As many as 4654 Omani workers were recruited in the private sector during August this year compared to 3995 in the previous month a rise of 16.5 per cent.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Manpower however the total number of Omanis employed in the private sector till August this year witnessed a drop of 1.3 per cent compared to the period ending this July.

The number of citizens recruited in the private sector till August this year was 209951 while till July it was 212779.

Muscat ranked first with 69169 workers followed by North Batinah (38113) Dakhliyah (27153) South Batinah (20463) North Sharqiyah (13259) South Sharqiyah (12411) Dhofar (12346) Dhahirah (10478) Buraimi (3882) Al Wusta (1575) and Musandam (1102).

The financial and construction sectors attracted the largest number of Omanis  (55081) followed by wholesale and retail trade (35632) mining and quarries (25007) manufacturing (22943) real estate (22650) brokerage (15654) transport storage and communication (14053) hotel and restaurant (7262) education (5020) electricity gas and water supply (2269) community service and domestic activities (1366) public administration defence and social security with 39 workers and 36 in the fishing sector.

The figures also revealed that the number of Omanis who resigned at the end August was 5739 compared to 5246 workers by the end of July this year an increase of 9.4 per cent.

The number of dismissals in the same period this year also rose by 60.5 per cent with 1743 workers as compared to 1086 workers by the end of July. The number of migrant labour force rose by 0.3 per cent at the end of August with 1618290 workers compared to 1614034 at the end of July this year while 18745 workers left the country in August compared to 16759.
