390 Illegal Immigrants Rescued off Italian Coasts


(MENAFN- QNA) Italian Navy announced today that it saved more than 390 illegal immigrants off the Italian coasts.

In a statement issued by Aki news agency, the Italian navy said the frigate Euro, which is involved in the military humanitarian operation 'Our Sea', rescued 290 immigrants including 147 women and 31 children.

Yesterday, the Italian navy transported nearly 900 immigrants, including some Syrians, from among those rescued in Sicily straits as part of the operation 'Our Sea'.

Italy is facing an unprecedented influx of immigrants. Italian circles estimated that over 10000 illegal immigrants had arrived since the beginning of this year, compared with less than 43 thousand during the whole of last year.
