China's Inflation Cools to Fourmonth Low

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Beijing September 12 (QNA) - China's August consumer inflation unexpectedly fell to a four-month low and some economists warned of the potential for deflationary pressure if pricing weakens further. Food prices which can be volatile and subject to seasonal trends were mostly responsible for the drop. But some economists said pricing power looks weak excluding the food measure. China's consumer-price index climbed 2% in August from a year earlier slower than a 2.3% year-to-year rise in July data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed. According to the data the producer price index (PPI) fell by 1.2% from a year earlier marking 30 straight months of falls. Analysts said the numbers suggested excess capacity in the industrial sector. The factory price - or wholesale price of consumer goods - gained just 0.2% for the period but wholesale prices of production materials fell 1.7% for the month. (QNA)
