Iraq Speaker, French President Discuss Situation in Iraq


(MENAFN- QNA) Iraqi parliament speaker Salim al-Jabouri met Friday with French President Francois Hollande, currently on a visit to Iraq.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed means of combating terrorism in Iraq and France's role in hosting Iraqi refugees until the situation stabilizes and they are able to return to their home country.

Jabouri reiterated Iraq's keenness on building balanced ties with France in particular and European countries in general based on respect ad mutual trust, hailing the French role in supporting Iraq against terrorism.

For his part, Hollande expressed France's interest in assisting Iraq and mobilizing the international society to support its stability, praising the successful political transition in the Arab country.

Earlier today, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi discussed with Hollande bilateral relations and means of boosting them, in addition to issues due to be discussed at the international conference on peace and security of Iraq, which will be held Monday in Paris.
