(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu yesterday described his country's relations with Qatar as "excellent," praising their efforts to bring stability to the region.
Speaking to Qatari newspaper Al Sharq, the minister said that the two countries had worked together to resolve a number of regional crises.
The two countries had great abilities that could be used to promote cooperation in the humanitarian, cultural, economic and political fields, he said.
He said that Turkey was looking forward to facilitating Qatari investment in the country, and added that 2015 will see the two countries hold a joint cultural year and establish a Turkish school in Qatar.
Cavusoglu highlighted the strong economic cooperation between the two, saying it was based on investment and bilateral trade. He said strong trade relations help people of the two countries get to know about each other's culture.
On the Syrian crisis, the Turkish minister said that the Syrian regime was solely responsible for the displacement of 6.5 million Syrians, in addition to the death of 200,000. He noted that the Syrian regime had used 421 ballistic missiles during the fighting.
He said the Turkish administration had stood by the Syrian people in their revolution from day one, adding that Turkey had provided more than $3bn in assistance to Syrian refugees.
On Turkey's relations with the European Union, the minister stressed that joining the EU remained a strategic goal for Turkey and the current administration was continuing with its reforms to reach that goal.
