Qatar Festival to showcase technology for learning


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)  The first Learning Festival of WISE (World Innovation Summit for Education) will showcase uses of technology in the classroom and demonstrate how to utilise accessible technology to enhance creativity.

The WISE Learning Festival, to be held in partnership with Katara, will exhibit a sensible photo diary by renowned Iranian photographer Newsha Tavakolian and demonstration by leaders from the 'Maker Movement,' said Alexis Vallegeas, creator of the festival, addressing a press conference yesterday.

"The Learning Festival will be more an event engaging the society," he said.

The Festival will be held under the theme, 'Creative takes on the use of technology in education.'

A series of demos, workshops, performances, and other pop-up events will take place through the Learning Festival.

"The Learning Festival will focus basically on technology and education," said Vallegeas.

The first-of-its-kind event to be organsied by WISE is expected to receive thousands of students and visitors.

Yuri Suzuki, a sound artist, designer and electronic musician who produces work that explores the realms of sound through exquisitely designed pieces, will attend the opening ceremony of the Learning Festival on October 23. The event will continue until November 3.

The photo exhibition by Tavakolian will showcase best practices in the use of technology to improve learning. Her striking images illustrate the 2014 WISE Book. The exhibition will showcase many initiatives from the region, including from the UAE and Qatar, said Alexis.

Innovators from the Maker Movement will transform conventional media and arts into an interactive and playful journey. They will host 12 entities from around eight countries with 80 projects.

The event will showcase interesting features like workshops to teach students to play music with fruits.

Texas A & M Qatar and Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar will also contribute their work at the Learning festival.

Meanwhile, the 2014 WISE summit will take place between November 4 and November 6 in Doha under the theme 'Imagine € Create € Learn: Creativity at the Heart of Education.'

The three-day Summit offers a convivial environment for interactive discussions with speakers, experts and members of the WISE community.
