(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura underlined the necessity of combating terrorism and helping Syrians solve their crisis politically after meeting President Bashar Al-Assad in Damascus on Thursday.
Terrorist threats have become a source of concern for people all over the world, de Mistura told reporters after the encounter.
He added that combating terrorist groups is one of the UN's priorities and this move would not be made without solving the country's crisis to create better situations for Syrians.
De Mistura described his talks with Assad as fruitful and successful, stressing that the UN will do its best to help the Syrian government to relieve the suffering of citizens and to deliver aid and services to Syrians nationwide.
He said this move would be made to coincide with a comprehensive political process taking into consideration UN Resolution 2170 tasked with combating terrorism.
The envoy added that he would present a report to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on proposals and opinions of Syrians inside and outside of the country, the international community and officials in the Middle East on the crisis.
The UN mission, he added, is visiting Syria now in order to reduce violence in the country, and he underlined that he would spare no effort in bringing all the related partners together.
Meanwhile, President Al-Assad stressed his government's readiness to cooperate with de Mistura to help him achieve his mission, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported, according to a presidential statement.
Combating terrorism is a high priority as it threatens the people of the region and the entire world, the statement added.
