US air force destroys ISIL bunker near Mosul Dam

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))  The US air force continued its attacks against the militant group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), carrying out strikes near the key Mosul Dam in the north of the country.

The Central Command, in a statement released late on Thursday, said the air attacks, staged on Wednesday and earlier on Thursday, destroyed two machine-gun emplacements and a bunker.

"These strikes were conducted under authority to protect US personnel and facilities, support humanitarian efforts, and support Iraqi forces that are acting in furtherance of these objectives," the statement said.

The US Administration has vowed to escalate military action against the radical group, rallied support from allies, increased backing for the Iraqi Government forces, but has remained adamant on maintaining its strategy to abstain from involving ground forces in the military operations
