US, Lithuania Win to Set Up Semifinals at 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup


(MENAFN- QNA) United States and Lithuania both pulled away in the second half to win their quarter-finals Tuesday at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and set up a repeat of the 2010 Worlds semi-final that the US won 89-74 en route to the title.

The Americans beat Slovenia 119-76 in a game that was close in the very early stages of the second half.

In the earlier game on Tuesday Lithuania prevailed in a defensive struggle against Turkey, winning 73-61 to advance to the semi-finals.

Lithuania made 10 of 19 three-pointers with Renaldas Siebutis, Marty Pocius and Darjus Lavrinovic all making three triples. Siebutis finished with 19 points, Pocius had 13 points and Lavrinovic had 11 points while Jonas Valanciunas collected 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Just like at the 2010 Worlds, Lithuania have made the semi-finals.
