Japan, US See Little Progress in Talks for TPP

(MENAFN- QNA) Japan and the United States made only "very limited" progress in their two-day working-level talks over Tokyo's proposed exceptions to tariff abolition for key farm products under a Pacific free trade initiative, a Japanese official said Wednesday.

Japan's deputy chief negotiator for the Trans-Pacific Partnership talks said that the two parties were unable to make noticeable progress.

According to Japan's (Kyodo) News Agency, the failure between the two largest economies in the TPP to bridge their differences clouds the prospect of striking a two-way agreement by around the end of September, seen as vital before all 12 TPP negotiating members reach an agreement.
