Kimoon Welcomes Formation of New Government in Iraq


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) New York September 09 (QNA) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon has welcomed the formation of a new government in Iraq. "It is a positive step towards political stability and peace in the country" said Ki-moon's spokesman. He urged Iraqi politicians to continue cooperation and reach an agreement on appointing the ministers of Defence and Interior. On Monday the Iraqi parliament approved the new cabinet of Prime Minister Haydar Al-Abadi who requested an additional week to name the ministers of Defence and Interior. (QNA) UN Member Welcomes Formation of New Iraqi Government Baghdad September 09 (QNA) - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Nickolay Mladenov the announcement of the formation of a new government in Iraq as well as the adoption of the ministerial program.

"It provides hope and opportunity for the Iraqis as it promotes national unity as well as socio-economic reform and development. The United Nations have repeatedly underlined the urgency of this step" he said.

Pointing to the current security humanitarian and economic challenges facing Iraq Mladenov urged the government to act effectively from Day One of its inauguration to address such challenges including countering the threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham-the Levant (ISIS) and building a better future for Iraqis from all communities.

He continued saying that the United Nations stand ready to assist the new government in any endeavor to promote broad support for Iraq in the period ahead.

Iraqi Parliament on Monday voted to give confidence to the new government headed by Haidar Abadi. (QNA)
