Qatar- Stars of Science on MBC4 for sixth season

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Foundation (QF) yesterday announced the return of the science and technology edutainment reality TV programme Stars of Science, on MBC4 for an exciting sixth season.

The show evaluates young innovators' resilience, ingenuity and teamwork in challenges throughout the programme as they develop their potential products from concept to working prototype with the goal of winning a share of the $600,000 prize money.

The new season begins airing on October 5.

The programme will premiere on MBC4 on September 15 at 9pm (Saudi Arabia) and 6pm GMT, officials told a press conference at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) yesterday.

Following a competitive selection process, 12 candidates aged between 18 and 30 from the Arab world will come to Doha, where they will be mentored by engineering and design specialists.

"The high number of quality applications from talented, inspired people has made the selection process very difficult.

"I have no doubt that the top 12 candidates ultimately chosen will be our best innovators thus far," said Youssif Abdulrahman Saleh, Perennial Juror and General Manager, Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre. In the first four episodes, viewers will witness the casting sessions where 12 candidates will be selected from across the Arab world. A jury of prominent tech experts and industry leaders will examine candidates' projects and determine who progresses to the next stage.

Season six will end with a live final in which voting from the public and jury deliberation will determine the final decision.

Stars of Science has launched a new website this season that allows fans to enrich their viewing experience.

The website is an interactive hub for technology-related discussion to help Arab innovators connect with resources and each other.

It will include a discussion forum and live chat option before, during and after the episode where jury members, experts and candidates will be able to respond to questions from the public.

Season six will be hosted by Khaled Al Jumaily and co-host Haneen Al Naqdi.

Through its six seasons, more than 28,000 young Arab inventors have submitted their ideas.

Around the Arab world, Stars of Science alumni are actively mentoring other innovators, speaking publicly and supporting local startups.

They have also presented at TEDx events, the White House, and international forums and toured schools to speak about the importance of STEM education.

The 80 candidates who have been featured on Stars of Science have gone on to file 62 patents and found 16 regionally based companies.
