Oman- Sponsor's invitefor Ali Hameed

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Ali Hameed an experienced national team player has become the second Omani golfer after Azaan al Rumhy to receive a sponsor's invitation for the 2014 NBO Golf Classic.

Both the golfers were awarded the sponsor's  invitation during last year's  inaugural edition as well. The US$300000 European Challenge Tour event will be played at Almouj Golf in The Wave Muscat.

Confirming the selection of Hameed for the sponsor's  invite the tournament's event coordinator David White told Muscat Daily on Wednesday 'There are two invitations given to Omani golfers. We wish to have more but as there is a strict  criteria of handicap score there aren't many eligible to make the cut. I am hopeful that we may have more Omanis making the cut by next year.'

The Englishman who has worked previously with Muscat Hills Golf Club said 'The two Omani players will be up against some of the best upcoming professionals from across the world and it will be a good  experience for them.'

The organisers have a total of ten amateur sponsor's invites to be given out to players from the Arab world. Those expected to get the invite are the top two players of the Pan Arab Golf Championship and the top  two finishers of the GCC Championship.

Besides the ten invites to amateurs the organisers can also invite 20 professionals. The Challenge Tour which was founded in 1989 is the breeding ground for the next generation of European Tour talent and boasts of a famous alumni including several  members of Europe's current Ryder Cup team - Rory  McIlroy Martin Kaymer Thomas Bjorn Justin Rose Ian Poulter Jamie Donaldson Graeme McDowell and Henrik Stenson.
