(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Oman Golf  Committee's (OGC) efforts to give the sport a boost in the sultanate has received a shot in the arm with Volkswagen Oman extending its support towards the fast-improving junior development programme by signing an agreement on Monday.

Speaking after signing the deal with Volkswagen Oman which is part of Zubair Automotive Group OGC chairman Mundhir al Barwani said 'We are happy that the Zubair Group (Volkswagen Oman) has decided to continue their relationship with the OGC to develop Omani golf. This is a continuous process and it comes days after the return  of the our junior team from a summer training camp at the Volkswagen Golf Arena in Sweden.'

The OGC chief thanked  Volkswagen for its backing as it would send positive signals to other corporate bodies to  support the game which is growing in the sultanate. Barwani said 'The committee is just four years old and we are already doing well. We have to thank not just the OGC members and the players but all those who have been involved with Omani golf for the success.'

We want to be completely involved in the development of Omani junior golfers. The juniors are the future of not just Omani golf but the country itself. So we want to be part of a comprehensive development strategy for Oman golf.'

Sharifa Adnan an OGC member said Volkswagen Oman has been eager to come on board to promote junior golf. 'They just jumped at the opportunity that was presented to them. We are thankful to them as the extension of their support comes close on the heels of our juniors' trip to Sweden' she said.
