Karzai Urges For Immediate Political Settlement in Afghanistan

(MENAFN- QNA) President Hamid Karzai Urges for national unity and a speedy settlement to Afghanistan's political crisis, and called on both presidential candidates to immediately reach an agreement on a political settlement.

Speaking during the13th death anniversary of former Mujahideen commander Ahmad Shah Massoud on Tuesday, President Karzai said the two candidates can resolve the deadlock by reaching a political agreement, according to the Khaama Press.

Karzai said the term of the current government has already expired and Afghanistan needs a new government which can be formed by presidential contenders Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.

He called on gathering participants to urge the two candidates to reach an agreement and rescue the country from the current situation and political deadlock.

The presidential election was once again taken towards a deadlock after Dr. Abdullah Abdullah announced his team's stance regarding the electoral process and said his team will not accept the outcome of election.

Dr. Abdullah said the audit and recount process as well as vote invalidation process was not conducted fairly and warned that he will not accept a fraudulent government even for one day.

However, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials have said they will release the final vote results once the audit and recount process concludes.
