Russian Defense Ministry Denies Approaching Canadian Warship

(MENAFN- QNA) The Russian Defense Ministry denied Tuesday that its Air Force Su-24 approached a Canadian warship based in the black sea, saying the air force only flew near it.

The Canadian Defense Ministry said today that a Russian plane flew above the warship 'provocatively,' according to Canadian Defense Minister Robert Nicholson. He warned that such actions could lead to escalation of tension. The Canadian Defense Ministry proceeded in its statement to urge Russia to stop such actions in the future.

According to Russian news agency Itar-Tass, Russian Defence Ministry’s spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that the route of the planes crossed that of the warship, but denied that planes flew over the warship. He stressed that all flights were carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of air space over neutral waters.
