Ryanair purchases 100 Boeing planes worth USD11b

(MENAFN) Ireland-based low-cost carrier Ryanair said it placed an order to purchase 100 jets from Boeing worth USD11 billion, with an option to buy another 100 plans, Arab News reported.

The order includes the fuel-efficient 737 Boeing MAX200, with each plane accommodating up to 200 seats, up from other single-aisle planes which include only 160 seats.

Ryanair said the giant order will enable it to meet its growth targets, which calls for it to expand from 82 million customers in 2014 to more than 150 million in 2024.

"It's going to change the game for low-fare air travel. It's also going to change the game in Europe. I hope it will hasten a new era of price wars in Europe over the next 10 years," Ryanair chief executive said.
