(MENAFN) Dubai is expected to spend USD32 billion on expanding its Al Maktoum Airport to deal with 200 million people per year next decade, which is roughly triple the current level of passengers, Arab News reported.
Al Maktoum International Airport, the emirate's second airport, began accepting passengers in October 2013 and currently has a capacity of only around 5 million people annually.
Dubai has approved plans to enlarge Al Maktoum Airport so that it can eventually accommodate more than 200 million passengers, with the expansion being expected to be the biggest airport project in the world.
The expansion project is predicted to happen in two phases in a period of six to eight years, with the entire development covering an area of 56 square kilometers.
