Japan US Resume TPP Auto Trade Talks

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Washington September 04 (QNA) - Trade officials from Japan and the United States have resumed talks to narrow their differences on automobile trade. The new 3-day round opened in Washington on Wednesday. The talks are concurrent with multilateral negotiations for a Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade pact according to Japan's (NHK WORLD) website. US officials are urging Japan to revise its standards on vehicle safety and fuel efficiency to help US auto exporters. The US also wants to be allowed to restore its tariffs when Japanese auto imports surge. Officials from the 12 countries negotiating the Trans-Pacific trade pact have started talks in Vietnam. They are discussing key areas that would pave the way to a final deal. Japan-US talks on agricultural tariffs start in Tokyo next Tuesday. (QNA)
