Kuwait- Reactions over award festivities still 'echoing' around the world


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY Sept 8 (KUNA): Reactions over the anticipated celebration to be held tomorrow (Tuesday) to confer the title of 'Humanitarian Leader' to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon are still echoing around the world. In Rome United Nations World Food Programme Executive Director Ertharin Cousin said that His Highness the Amir has performed an immense global service for his generosity that helped ease the suffering not only of people in Syria but also millions in other communities across the globe Hence she carried on it is welldeserving to name His Highness the Amir as a 'Humanitarian Leader' by the UN for his noble role in saving millions of lives across the world expressing at the same time her warmest greetings on this occasion. His Highness the Amir 'led the international community in an outstanding exemplary way particularly by hosting the two Kuwait pledging conferences. Each conference mobilized international support for Syrians affected by the crisis' she noted. In Tokyo the Japanese Government and people still hold high the unstinted support and generous assistance initiated by His Highness the Amir following the devastating disaster of the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami three years ago. The Japanese have expressed gratitude for the substantial support from Kuwait namely His Highness the Amir due to his benevolent contributions to the needy worldwide and in the region namely the relief operations for the Syrian people. The UN is also honoring Kuwait as a 'humanitarian center.' Soon after the earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 and upon directives of His Highness the Amir Kuwait offered five million barrels of crude oil to Japan to help its reconstruction work which has enormously encouraged people there. The donation surpassed Japan's daily consumption of oil equivalent to some $ 500 million with the value distributed to the hardest-hit areas after the catastrophe left nearly 19000 people dead or missing there. The financial assistance from Kuwait was the largest amount ever donated to Japan by any country. Regionally and in Amman Chairman of Jordan's House of Notables Abdul-Rauf Al-Rawabdeh has heaped praise upon His Highness the Amir for his leading role in placing Kuwait in ranks of nations with a record of humanitarian action. His Highness the Amir 'has had explicit stamps for support of Arab peoples and the best examples in this respect are Kuwait's humanitarian stance in support of the Palestinian people and the other (Arab) peoples' Al-Rawabdeh said in remarks to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). Meanwhile former premier Faisal Al-Fayez also interviewed by the KUNA lauded His Highness Sheikh Sabah for his rapid action to relieve those in need for aid regardless of racial or religious affiliations. Meanwhile Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Ibrahim Saif affirmed that Kuwait's 'economic and humanitarian support' for Jordan in line with guidelines of His Highness the Amir enabled the Kingdom to pursue development schemes. He expressed gratitude to Kuwait for its contribution to the $ 1.25 billion GCC grant. Also in this respect he estimated value of contributions by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to the Jordanian development schemes at $1.235 billion for the years 2012- 2016. Moreover Kuwaiti daily An-Nahar issued a special edition on the occasion writing in part that the honoring of the Amir pleased all citizens and residents of Kuwait. An-Nahar narrated Sheikh Sabah's long record of philanthropic activities and contributions noting that he was architect of the international donors' conferences for Syria. 'His Highness the Amir is the first Arab leader to receive such honoring' it said. Meanwhile the Lebanese Al- Hadeel magazine published a long article noting Sheikh Sabah's 'logo the humanitarian diplomacy which he has masterminded and sailed its ship amid this roaring sea of suffering due to wars poverty and catastrophes. 'At times of harsh politics spread chaos the Amir leads his country to the peak of humanitarian peaceful and humanitarian meaning crowning it as a state of values and setting it as an example to be followed worldwide.' Also a number of institutions firms and associations on Monday commended the UN honoring saying it crowns His Highness the Amir's leading humanitarian work worldwide. 'Naming His Highness the Amir a humanitarian leader reflects reality' spokesman of the oil sector Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid Al-Sabah said in a statement issued by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). Since His Highness the Amir took over he has been exerting great efforts to support charity work both at home and overseas Sheikh Talal added on behalf of the oil sector. CEO of the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) Ali Al-Shammari in a statement on behalf of the Company said that His Highness the Amir's charity work has extended over half a century leading Kuwait to a prominent place on the map of the world's humanitarian work. He added that Kuwait has become a major donor state offering aid to alleviate sufferings off the afflicted all over the world. The Kuwait Environment Public Authority said in a press statement to KUNA that naming His Highness the Amir a humanitarian leader is 'a merited honoring ' highlighting his humanitarian initiatives of presenting aid to the suffering worldwide. The Authority congratulated the Kuwaiti people on the honoring. Meanwhile Kuwait Jurists Association said in a statement today that His Highness the Amir's humanitarian efforts have been extended to all corners of the world regardless of discrimination among afflicted people. The statement also stressed diplomatic efforts by His Highness the Amir which 'linked the State of Kuwaiti on the diplomatic and strategic levels' to the world. It also pointed to the efforts by His Highness of achieving much Arab reconciliation as well as defusing rows. Meanwhile Celebrations will be held on Tuesday at popular cafes coinciding with the speech by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the UN on occasion of honoring him as a humanitarian leader said Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh. Al-Sabeeh added on Monday that Kuwaitis and residents are invited to take part in the celebrations as His Highness the Amir's speech will be displayed on giant TV screens. Several festivities and celebratory activities will be organized. Folklore troupes will be also participating in the celebrations. Public figures governors and other officials will participate in the celebrations that will be held at popular cafes of Salmiya Sulaibikhat Farwaniya Al-Jahra and Sharq Al- Sabeeh said calling on people to attend. Al-Sabeeh expressed her pride and that of the Kuwaiti people for the UN naming their country a humanitarian center and His Highness the Amir a humanitarian leader.
