Tokyo Stocks Edges up in after Gains on Wall St

(MENAFN- QNA) Tokyo stocks rose slightly Monday morning, underpinned by buying on the share price rise in New York last Friday, but the market was top-heavy due to a halt in the yen's depreciation against the US dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 26.34 points, or 0.17%, from Friday to 15,695.02. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 5.10 points, or 0.39 %, at 1,298.31, according to Japan's Kyodo News Agency.

The Tokyo market opened higher on the heels of gains on Wall Street last weekend, with the S&P 500 index closing at a fresh record high, despite a weaker-than-expected US jobs report for August.
