Ethiopia President Praises Qatari Role in Regional Stability


(MENAFN- QNA) President of Ethiopia Mulatu Teshome has lauded Qatar's initiatives on regional and international issues, as well as its growing role in promoting security and stability in the region.

In a speech to Al-Sharq daily newspaper, President Teshome said that both Qatar and Ethiopia have common interests in achieving regional stability, thus they need to work together on several related issues such as achieving peace in Somalia and South Sudan. The State of Qatar and Ethiopia are exerting tireless efforts to create calm and peace in the region and thus a suitable environment for further cooperation between them, he said adding that his country working within regional bodies like the African Union, has already engaged in contributing to the achievement of security and stability in Somalia.

President Teshome said he was looking forwards to visiting Doha, during the few months ahead, to advance investments and economic partnerships and to implement the signed mutual agreements. He noted the historical relations between Ethiopia and the Arab World, stressing that importance of the Qatari-Ethiopian relations.

On the developmental partnerships between the State of Qatar and Ethiopia, President Teshome said that the existing friendship between the two countries need to be inforced with economic cooperation, pointing to the wide opportunities of investments in Ethiopia especially in the fields of infrastructure and agriculture.

The Ethiopian President said that his country's relations with its neighbours is flawless. He said that the misunderstanding on Ethiopia's Renaissance Dam project, can be gradually contained, pointed that it serves the interests of all the parties. Sudan and Egypt will benefit from the dam, he added.

He stressed that political stability, witnessed in the country, stems from the keenness of the Ethiopian government and people to drive development, and focus on the implementation of the "growth and transformation plan" that will make Ethiopia industrial nation by 2025, explaining that the factors which lead to eruption of the Arab Spring, do not exist in Ethiopia.
