Qatar attends small island developing states forum


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar took part in the third international conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in Aiba, capital of Samoa in the south Pacific.

The conference where Qatar was represented by the Minister of Environment H E Ahmed Amer Mohammed Al Humaidi, discussed sustainable development of SIDS through genuine and permanent partnerships and topics related to sustainable economic development, climate change, sustainable energy and disaster risk management.

On the sidelines, the Minister met Samoa's Prime Minister Tuilaepa Aiono Sailel and convoyed greetings of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and their best wishes of success for the conference.

Sailel asked the Minister to convey his greetings to the Emir and the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, wishing the Qatari people more progress and welfare under the Emir's leadership.

The Minister also held a meeting with the Ambassador for Climate Change at the Swedish Ministry of Environment, Anna Lindstedt, and discussed issues related to climate change and both countries' preparations for upcoming negotiations.
