Qatar Participates in Asian Cooperation Dialogue Forum

(MENAFN- QNA) The State of Qatar took part in the high-level forum on regional link up of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) member countries which ended session in the Thai capital of Bangkok recently.

Qatar's delegation to the meeting was headed by Qatar's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand.

Delegations representing 34 countries, a number of regional and international organizations, experts and specialists took part in the meeting.

The meeting was held upon a recommendation issued by the forum's ministers at the second ministerial meeting of the forum, held on the 25th of November last year in Manama. The ministers voiced determination to work together to formulate a general plan to link the whole of Asia in accordance with a proposal presented by the Kingdom of Thailand for holding a meeting to discuss a roadmap to promote regional linkage of the Forum's member states.

The ACD was inaugurated in June 2002 in Cha-Am, Thailand, where 18 Asian Foreign Ministers met together for the first time. The ACD is a continent-wide forum, the first of its kind in Asia. More specifically, the ACD aims to constitute the missing link in Asia by incorporating every Asian country and building an Asian Community without duplicating other organizations or creating a bloc against others. A key principle is to consolidate Asian strengths and fortify Asia's competitiveness by maximizing the diversity and rich resources evident in Asia. The core values of the ACD are positive thinking; informality; voluntarism; non-institutionalization; openness; respect for diversity; the comfort level of member countries; and the evolving nature of the ACD process.
