Iran criticizes IAEA for delayed report on detonators

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iran Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) on Saturday criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for delay in releasing its report about Iran's explosive detonators.

"The report should have been released earlier in May," the state IRNA news agency quoted IAEO spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi as saying.

On the latest report of IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, the Iranian official said: "We had no agreement before August 25 and we were only committed to observe a three-month timeline as a first step in Iran-IAEA talks." He noted that Iran had earlier reminded the agency on several occasions that given the complication of the issues, full implementation of the agreement was not possible until August 25, the deadline set by the agency.

Iran has never called for setting deadlines for settlement of the issues with the agency since the outset of the talks, he said, adding that Iran had no commitment to the three-month deadline, but, promised to for transparency of the outstanding issues.

The agency has not expressed concern about the issue in its report because it was already aware of it, neither has it released its report on Electron Bernstein waves (EBW), Kamalvandi went on.

The UN nuclear watchdog endorsed Iran's claim that the EBW issue is of civilian use in oil and gas industries, he affirmed.

"We believe that issue of EBW has finished," he said, noting that based on the latest report by IAEA's director, Iran has honored all its commitments to the safeguards.

The agency has also confirmed that Iran's nuclear facility is under its full supervision. Not to mention that it has announced that the country has implemented its voluntary measures in line with cooperation with the international body and in the framework of the talks with the P5+1.

The IAEA's latest report acknowledges that Iran was committed to its obligations in cooperation with the nuclear agency and was willing to stop up the efforts to resolve the outstanding issues, Kamalvandi added.
