(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Official says 4935 illegal residents were rounded up in Dubai till August this year in 181 crackdowns.The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) - Dubai has formulated a plan to stop illegal immigrants from entering the country.
“The directorate has finalised several initiatives regarding applications and arresting violators of the residency law and infiltrators” said Major-General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri Director-General of the directorate.
Colonel Khalifa Ahmed Al Ghaith Assistant to the Director-General for follow up of law violators however did not give details about the plan or the mechanism for implementing it. Addressing a Press conference on Wednesday Colonel Al Ghaith said 4935 illegal residents were rounded up in Dubai till August this year in 181 crackdowns.
“There were 91 reports of crime (committed by employees); 271 lawsuits against employees working with employers other than their lawful sponsors; 117 cases of persons staying in the country illegally; 116 cases of forging and using forged documents; and 74 cases in which the employer didn’t let go of his employee to work with another employer” he said.
The number of employees reported as absconding stood at 584 while complaints pertaining to applications for cancellation of residence visa were 368 and complaints related to end of service benefits were 332. The Documents Inspection Centre at the directorate scrutinised 26384 documents and seized 605 forged passports.
The directorate conducted 55 training courses which were attended by 745 people.
The number of disputes being reviewed by the Legal Affairs and Complaints section at the directorate stood at 1830 of which 1522 were settled.
Maj-Gen Al Marri lauded the performance of the department’s staff and their efforts in tracking down and apprehending violators of the law.
He called on all sections of the directorate to discharge their duties with the spirit of teamwork “which positively reflects the quality of the services rendered to the public in a civilised manner”.
