US trade picks up in July, deficit narrows


(MENAFN) According to the US Department of Commerce, the US international trade in goods and services improves in July, with a narrowed trade deficit, Xinhua reported.

The country's total exports in July hit a record high of USD198 billion, an increase of USD1.8 billion or 0.9 percent more than that registered in June, the department said.

Meanwhile, imports rose by USD1.6 billion, an increase of 0.7 percent from the previous month, hitting USD238.6 billion, following a 1.1 percent drop which was registered in June.

The trade deficit increased USD1.1 billion from July 2013 to July 2014. During the period, exports were up 4.3 percent and imports were up 4 percent.
