Germany Sends Military Supplies to Kurdistan

(MENAFN- QNA) The first German cargo plane carrying defensive military equipment for Kurds fighting Islamist militants in Iraq was due to arrive Friday, a spokesman for the armed forces said.

The Russian Antonov cargo plane took off from Leipzig/Halle airport and was scheduled to land in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan.

The equipment includes body armour and helmets, as well as mine detectors and ammunition disposal equipment taken from an army camp in Waren, in north-eastern Germany.

Berlin sent humanitarian aid to the Kurds in late August.
