Three Dozen Killed in Pakistan Rains

(MENAFN- QNA) Heavy monsoon rains and mudslides killed around three dozen people in Pakistan, officials said Thursday, prompting a flood warning.

At least 31 people died when the roofs of several houses collapsed in overnight rain in three cities in central Punjab province, dpa quoted a police official as saying.

A military spokesman said three soldiers died when their vehicle was washed away by a mudslide in the disputed Kashmir region near the Indian border.

The death toll may go up, said Ahmed Kamal, spokesman for National Disaster Management Authority in the capital Islamabad.

Monsoon rains in the Himalayan region cause numerous deaths and damage to infrastructure every year in Pakistan.
