China Appoints New Middle East Special Envoy


(MENAFN- QNA) Senior diplomat Gong Xiaosheng was appointed China's new special envoy on Middle East affairs, replacing Wu Sike, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang announced Thursday.

Gong, who used to be director of the Chinese Office in Palestine (Ambassador-level), Ambassador to Jordan and to Turkey respectively, is very familiar with Middle East affairs, said Qin at a daily press briefing.

Gong is scheduled to pay his first visit to Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon shortly after taking office. During his visit he will exchange views with parties concerned on current situations in the region in the hope of promoting a just and reasonable resolutions for ongoing Middle East issues, China's news Agency Xinhua reported.
