Afghan forces kill 35 militants


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) At least 35 Taliban militants were killed and 18 others were injured during military operations by Afghan national security forces in the past 24 hours.

The Afghan Interior ministry following a statement said that the operations were jointly conducted by Afghan National Police (ANP), Afghan National Army (ANA) and Afghan Intelligence National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives.

The statement further added that the operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Balkh, Kandahar, Maidan Wardak, Paktiya, Helmand and Kapisa provinces, according to the Afghan Khaama Press.

At least two Taliban militants were also arrested during the operations, the statement by interior ministry said, adding that numerous Taliban leaders were also among those killed or injured during the operations.

Afghan security forces confiscated various types of light and heavy weapons along with explosives and 4 rounds of improvised explosive device (IED) during the operations.

Interior ministry did not disclose further information regarding the casualties of the Afghan security forces during the military operations.

Afghan National Security Forces are made up of two main forces, the ANA and ANP. These groups are mentored and trained by ISAF forces.

Ensuring ANSF are strong enough to enforce security throughout Afghanistan is fundamental to the ISAF strategy.
