(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Ahmed al Musalmi CEO of National Bank of Oman (NBO) is confident of hosting a successful second edition of the US330000 NBO Golf Classic the penultimate round of the season's European Challenge Tour at Almouj Golf at The Wave Muscat from October 30-November 2.
Speaking to Muscat Daily on the sidelines of a partnership signing ceremony with Shangri-La Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa on Wednesday Musalmi said 'We had a successful inaugural event last year. We are now more confident of holding another successful edition this year.
'We have a three-year contract with the European Challenge Tour and we are hopeful that at the completion of our contract our mission of cementing Oman's place on the world golf map is achieved.'
He added 'I am hopeful of a long-term relationship with the European Challenge Tour though a decision on the extension of the contract or to sign up a new agreement for a bigger event will be taken only next year. We are keen to continue our relationship with golf as it has helped promote the country as an ideal destination for sports tourism.'
For the second year in succession Shangri-La Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa will partner with the NBO Classic. An agreement was signed at Shangri-La between Musalmi and Mark Kirk the general manager of Shangri-La on Wednesday.
As part of the deal Shangri-La will provide catering services at the VIP pavilion of the four-day event. The NBO Classic is expected to attract 114 international stars who will be fighting it out in the penultimate Challenge Tour round for the top 45 slots available at the European Grand Tour Challenge Final which will be held at the Al Badia Golf Club in Dubai UAE.
The European Challenge Tour's season-ender from November 5-8 will feature the top 45 players in the rankings following the conclusion of the 27-stage series in Oman. The top 15 players after the Dubai event will get to play on the 2015 European Tour.
Musalmi said 'We are delighted to welcome back Shangri-La as a supporting sponsor of the NBO Classic. Last year's tournament was hugely rewarding for everyone involved. 'The event is already an established week on Oman's sporting calendar. Through the competition the sultanate's golfing legacy unfolds every year. We anticipate that this year's tournament will be even bigger than the inaugural edition.'
Kirk said 'After the success of last year's event it gives Shangri-La great pleasure to return as a supporting sponsor. It is our ambition to promote Oman as a golfing destination and encourage more tourists to experience the fantastic courses the sultanate has to offer. The NBO Golf Classic will undoubtedly help reach this goal.'
