(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Moscow September 02 (QNA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Italian counterpart Federica Mogherini discussed over phone the best possible ways of settling the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The two officials discussed "pressing international issues including the crisis in Ukraine" with a view to finding optimal means of resolve it the Russian Foreign Ministry said according to Itar-Tass news agency. Lavrov called for direct negotiations and discussions over all outstanding disputes without threatening sanctions expressing his belief that ties between Russia on one side and the EU and the United States on the other should return to cooperation. The Russian official also congratulated Mogherini on her nomination as the new European Union foreign policy chief. (QNA)
