Saudi Arabia Welcomes Ceasefire in Gaza


(MENAFN- QNA) The Saudi cabinet welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides that ended the Israeli aggression on Gaza, praising the role played by the Arab Republic of Egypt and its sponsorship of the agreement.

This came in the Saudi cabinet's meeting held today under the chairmanship of Saudi Deputy Crown Prince and Second Deputy Prime Minister Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud.

Saudi Minister of Hajj and Acting Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Hajjar explained in a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA) after the meeting that that the cabinet stressed the importance of speeding up the introduction of relief aid to the Gaza Strip to alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinian people who have suffered from Israeli war crimes.

The cabinet also stressed the contents of the final communique of the 132nd session of the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Arab States and its inclusion of the firm positions of the GCC states towards a number of political issues regionally and internationally and confirmation of the joint march of the GCC.

A ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli occupation army in Gaza was reached in Cairo in the wake of the Israeli aggression on Gaza which lasted for about two months.

Until the last minutes before the ceasefire, 2137 people were martyred, 11110 wounded, entire families exterminated and tens of thousands of houses, schools and mosques were destroyed in the aggression. On the Israeli side, about 27 Israelis including 67 soldiers and five civilians were killed.
