Poverty in Iraq Could Rise to 30% due to Security Deterioration

(MENAFN- QNA) The percentage of poverty in Iraq could rise to 30% due to the security deterioration in the country, the Iraqi Ministry of Planning said Monday.

The Spokesman of the Ministry said today in statements to the press that the latest displacements of Iraqi citizen could lead to having 1.6 million refugees fall under the poverty line. The latest poverty level was that of 2012, which was registered at 19%.

The issue of poverty was improving in Iraq gradually. The 19% level registered in 2012 was a 4% decrease compared to the previous year. However the security instability and its resulting displacement will undo the previous years' progress.
