(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman will soon have a list of its own eight wonders – manmade and natural - chosen by its people themselves if an independent initiative on the concept succeeds.
This will 'showcase Oman in a new light' said Fahmi al Maawali the founder of insta8 a social platform for motivational speakers and also the man behind the idea. First a selected group of 20 people holding top positions in their respective fields will get together to prepare a list of 80 such spots.
'In most cases it is the ministers industry experts or historians who decide the best places of a nation. But we are going to be different. The common people of Oman will decide the best places. In the first phase a group of 20 selected people who hold senior positions in their respective professions will brainstorm and list down 80 best places during a month-long process.'
Next pictures of these 80 spots with their details will be uploaded on a social networking site and Instagram. 'This will be the interesting part. People from Oman will vote to choose from the list. They will be encouraged to visit these places and add more informative bits about them besides more pictures.'
Over ten weeks eight places will be eliminated from the list each week until just eight remain.
'The voting process will last two months. The last two weeks will see voting though SMSes.'
Any money generated from the campaign will be given to 'ambassadors' of each of the final eight places. 'This will empower villagers and also help preserve the natural and historical heritage through awareness. Omani people are patriotic but are not fully aware of the places of beauty. This campaign will bring out the best in people and the country' he said.
