Half a million students attend school on first day of new academic year in Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Education (MoE) has said that more than half a million students including over 12000 new enrollments attended schools on the first day of the 2014-15 academic year on Sunday.

H E Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed bin Nassir al Shibaniyah Minister of Education said 'As many as 529469 including 12578 new students attended the first day of 2014-15 session in 1053 schools across Oman on Sunday.'

She said that Oman has received wide acclaim for achieving UN's Education for All goals. 'Our teachers have worked very hard to ensure students get the best education. We welcome all students and teachers and urge them to benefit from the resources available. We call upon parents and teachers to cooperate for a better future of the children.'

Hilal al Adhubi a parent said 'My children were so excited going to school with new stationery and in new uniforms that they woke up on their own.'

Nutaila al Farsi a sixth grader living in Amerat said she was very happy to meet her friends after the vacation. 'I hadn't met any of them for the past three months. I never like skipping the first day of a new academic year. All my school items and the uniform are new' she said.

Meanwhile the ROP has increased patrolling across the country around schools to facilitate easy movement of students and parents. It has also distributed pamphlets and brochures to raise awareness on traffic safety guidelines.

Lt Col Nasser al Haddabi director of traffic in Dhofar said that increased patrolling will also ensure that school buses reach on time. He said that the pamphlets are being distributed on main roads service lanes and roundabouts.
