(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) A three-decade old restaurant in Ruwi has been shut down for its failure to comply with health and hygiene norms.
A senior official in Muscat Municipality said that its food and health inspection department had issued several warnings and notices to the restaurant in the past. 'Two months ago another notice was issued but the restaurant owner failed to comply with the notice. The municipality then finally ordered its closure' the official said about the Bright Dawn Projects United restaurant.
The owner was unavailable for comment.
For the past three decades the restaurant was popular among South Asian expatriates. 'Even taxi drivers at the Muscat airport knew where the restaurant was located and would bring many new recruits from South Asia there before they were picked up by their respective employers' said Abu Backer who has been running a meat shop for the past 15 years.
Mohammed P who runs a cosmetics and tobacco shop close by said 'The restaurant had changed hands many times in the past. Some owners made a fortune while others fell on hard times.'
Kabeer Mohammed a regular visitor to the restaurant said 'Earlier it used to only serve Kerala food and diversified only in the later years. Since the food was cheap it was very popular among blue collared workers.'
